Tsenter Inc. Li-ion Battery Management Technology
Li-ion batteries, with their high energy density and need for protection against overcharging and cell imbalance, create a great challenge for the development of a total battery management system (TBMS). Tsenter Inc’s TBMS that includes optimal charging, diagnostic and prognostic algorithms, cell equalization, and safety subsystems, is a new approach to the management of all battery types, including Li-ion. A battery’s intrinsic electrochemical values such as ohmic resistance, chemical resistance, electrical double layer capacity (EDLC), and instantaneous and dynamic open circuit voltage (OCV) are collected, analyzed, and compiled into a matrix of battery parameters (MoP). Being electrochemical in nature, the MoP reflects the true battery condition relative to the point of charge, mass and heat transfer, in addition to the dynamics of battery degradation. Understanding the chemical nature of battery degradation through MoP treatment let’s proceed with optimization of battery operation.
